Welcome to Cottonwoods
The name "Cottonwoods" comes from our large
trees that provide shade from the heat and line our
creek.
Located in North Central Texas we are advocates for
responsible ownership and have been involved with
Lupine animals for over 12 years.
In 1994 I met my Brothers Wolfdog "Niki" and
I was hooked.
He was not a breeder, but one day I saw an ad in the paper
for puppies. I was excited to finally find one, as I
thought they were rare. Like most purchasing their first
wolfdog I didn't get my moneys worth. I had no idea what
to look for in a Wolfdog puppy, what to look for in a
breeder, what registrations were reputable, and of course
no health screens were done on the Sire/Dam. I was blinded
by my love for him and it took me a bit to see he was not
what he was represented to be - In other words, I learned
the hard way.
I went through the same stages as most, wanting the
highest content I could legally own, etc. I eventually
came to the realization that I wanted more than a pretty
animal that spent it's life in a kennel.
We then started selectively breeding dogs for Wolfy traits.
None of our animals are the offspring of anything wild,
and we are not producing wolf/dog crosses.
At Cottonwoods, our animals contribute to our community
through volunteer work with Cancer
Support, Hospice,
Deer
Recovery, Search &
Rescue, local
E-collar trainings, etc.
For several years we have tried to combat
misrepresentation through Buyer
Beware advertising, and pass on some of the lessons we
have learned.
Our education is continuous and we still enjoy observation of
Pack Dynamics (hierarchical social structure)
and interaction with wolfy looking canines.
This site is basically a collection of my previous Wolfdog
information and my current and past animals.
I have valued the guidance of others and this webpage is a
place to share my past experiences, I hope that you will
find some of the information useful.
On the internet you will meet many different types of
people. Some advise comes from those who have researched
everything they can get their hands on but may not have an
ounce of common sense or actual experience. We have read
and enjoyed quite a few books and articles, but our
pages/opinions are not based on "book-smarts", they are formed from
personal experiences, several years of rescue, discussions
with new friends, and valued friendships with "old timers"
- individuals who have many years of experience (over 20
yrs).
It will be painfully
obvious to the reader I was absent the day schools taught
spelling, grammar, and punctuation :-)
That is a joke for those who missed it, but seriously,
please do not send me emails correcting my webpages,
because I really don't obsess about those things.
I
have also tried to design my pages where they look right in settings
of 800x600 and 1024x768 (best) screen resolution.
I am often asked if we breed, I am a "Breeder" but
had not generally sold pups, especially over the internet.
Our page has not been updated for some time now, as we
have become discouraged with the lack of quality homes -
we will not be breeding 2010.
If you like something please link to it. BASICally
I have
had problems with an individual taking my work. Thank You.
